Another Ghost Rider?
If you saw 2007’s Ghost Rider, chances are you were less than thrilled. Ghost Rider was bad. Really bad. It’s hard to say where it went wrong. Wes Bentley holds the honor of being the worst movie villain of all time, and Nicholas Cage just wasn’t right for Johnny Blaze. Blaze shouldn’t be eating jelly beans, and he shouldn’t sound like some backwards yokel. They tried to make a character that everyone, even little kids, would love. The overall direction of the movie didn’t help too much either. And carving the two names in the tree? Come on! I could go on for hours about how the movie failed but there is news to cover.
Word has been going around for a little bit that there might be a Ghost Rider sequel of some kind but there has been little progress it seems. Nick Cage is still interested in the project though. He wants to take the movie to Europe and get the Catholic Church involved in things. More demons and less cowboys. The overall aim is to re-conceive the character and go in a new direction. At least they recognize their mistakes, but is this new direction going to work? The premise could be interesting, but it doesn’t excite me. I’m not dying for a Ghost Rider sequel and would rather they moved away from it for the moment. I’ll never think of Cage as a good Blaze and would like to see someone new on the bike in the future. Someone who feels like a real human being rather than a joke. After last summer, I think just about every studio wants to do a comic book movie and do it right. So we’re hearing about all these potential reboots and relaunches or taking a the character in a new direction. Still, do people even want a new Ghost Rider movie right now? The Punisher was given a new franchise and that didn’t work out. The movie might get made and it would be unfair to say it will fail before hearing anything else.
