The Adventures of Captain Otter

When DC decided to create their own movie studio, do you know what I expected?  Real progress on bringing these characters to life.  Sure, Green Lantern was already well underway and Warners had already established Batman as the box office king, but there was much more work to be done.  Surely, we would start hearing great news.  Well, today we get an onslaught of bad/strange movie news.Let’s start with the two movies that are considered to be top priorities.  Green Lantern got a pushed back release date to June, so his movie won’t be coming out on the same day as Thor.  Clearly, someone is afraid of a little thunder.  I expected this, and honestly it’s nothing to worry about.  Then the Flash.  Early rumors said that we might see a Flash movie as early as 2011, even though I didn’t believe it.  Now, the producer of the movie talking about how the current project is essentially DEAD and not going anywhere.  One would think with Barry Allen coming back from the grave in comics, that his spirit would be able to do the same in movies.  Now, this doesn’t mean that the Flash is gone for good.  It just means that Warners is looking for the right direction to take the movie, and that just hasn’t popped up yet.  Another update came today, when the writer said he was still working on the script.  So does anyone know what’s really going on?  Certainly not me. 

Now we get to the fun stuff.  We have our first “real” Wonder Woman rumor.  Beyonce is apparently in talks to play the legendary character, and they want to get into production by 2010 and release it by 2011.  I’m kind of speechless right now.  First, and to be fair, I don’t care about Wonder Woman.  No matter how hard I try, I just don’t.  And again, to be fair, I don’t try very hard.  I know her recent animated movie was supposed to be really good, but that doesn’t change the fact that she always comes off to me as a one dimensional character.  Anyway, let’s start with the 2011 part.  This could be true.  I mean, if they start it right now, it could happen.  But as far as I know, they don’t have a script, director, or anything close to a starting premise.  Generally, they pick the director first before they go for a star.

And could Beyonce really pull of Wonder Woman?  I don’t know too much about her as an actress, and she’s had some success with movies like Dreamgirls.  But, it just doesn’t feel right.  To pull off a character like Wonder Woman, you need a fantastic actress.  Without someone who really knows what they’re doing, the moving loses its driving force.  I don’t think she’s a bad actress, but I’m not sure if she can pull off this movie.  I’ll believe this rumor when they confirm it.

But hey, Lobo is still getting a movie.  And DC made a fantastic choice in picking Guy Ritchie as the director.  At least we have that.
