Mass Effect Comic Book
One of the many fun things to come out of Comic-con was news of something called Mass Effect: Redemption. This isn’t the first time a comic has sought to explore a video game franchise. We saw it before with Halo and Gears of War. I never got the chance to look at the Halo series and didn’t bother checking out Gears of War. Why should Mass Effect be any different?
Unlike Gears of War, Mass Effect has a really elaborate plot. And a damn good one too. Gears of War had a relatively simple story that worked really well in the video game, but I never felt that there was more material to cover. Mass Effect on the other hand, established a huge galaxy of aliens, wars, and all sorts of mayhem. One of the best races are the Krogan, represented by the handsome fellow above. They’re a race of battle toad-eque aliens with a serious attitude problem. This probably has something to do with their entire race being sterilized. But hey, they deserve it for trying to take over the entire damn galaxy. The game is filled with bizzare and truly awesome backstories like this, and don’t even get me started on how cool the Turians are. Even though the gameplay wasn’t perfect, Mass Effect’s story and the opportunites for exploration marked it as one the best games I’ve ever played. If you havn’t played it yet, I suggest you pick it up before the next one comes out. The best part is that Mass Effect 2 will use your save data from the first game, so all your big decisions in the first game will return to haunt you.
But enough about the game. The series will be published by Dark Horse comics and should be coming out fairly soon. Even as more of these video game/comic crossovers come out, I think Mass Effect could stand out as a big success. I hope. I’ll definitely look into this and keep you updated if it’s worth picking up.
