State of the Movie: Iron Man 2

Published by billytbw at 6:32 pm under State of the Movie Edit This

Principal photography ended today for Iron Man 2, which means they have finished shooting it.  Now all they have to do is a year of adding visual effects, sounds, and other assorted editing.  After a year’s worth of rumors, I realize that many of you might not know exactly whats going on.  So, I decided to create a new post type called “State of the Movie” where I sum up the rumors and put it all in one easy to find place.  Lets see how this goes.

Casting:

-Robert Downey Jr. and Gwenyth Paltrow reprise their roles, with Terrence Howard deciding he likes to be annoying and leaving.  He has been replaced by Don Cheadle, who has also signed up for the Avengers movie.  I don’t know what he will be doing in the Avengers, but we’ll have a better idea after Iron Man 2.  Samuel L. Jackson will come back as Nick Fury, marking the first of his ungodly 9 appearances.  He won’t be doing any fighting, which is probably because anyone who looks at him just cowers in fear.

-Mickey Rourke will play Whiplash, the film’s big baddie.  His name is Ivan Vanko, which is the alter ego of the first Crimson Dynamo.  He’ll be some kind of cross between the two, which sounds fun.  The character is still a bit of a mystery, and all we know is that he built a suit while in some prison and that he is one scary man.  And he has a pet cockatoo he talks to when he gets drunk, which just screams awesome.  Justin Hammer, played by Sam Rockwell, will team up with Whiplash which probably means giving him extra tech.  We will hopefully see Vanko get some more armor, since right now it looks a bit light.

-Scarlett Johansson will play the Black Widow, a role she will reprise for the Avengers.  Expect her to be a double agent and mess around with alot of people.  Also expect a love triangle between her, Stark and Pepper.  Wait, two redheads?  How did that happen?

-Stan Lee will also be making a cameo as Larry King.  Kate Mara and Olivia Munn also have small roles, and I can only guess that Stark will be sleeping with these two ladies.  My best guess.  Garry Shandling will play a senator and Clark Gregg will come back as a SHIELD agent.

If there is a problem with the casting, it’s that the cast is too big.  There are a ton of great actors here, and I don’t know how this is going to work.

The Director

-Jon Favreau will be directing again.  He did a great job on the first movie, and has learned a bit more since then.  He’s promising better action and better character development, and dammit I believe him.

Plot

-We don’t know too much.  Whiplash breaks out of prison (or something), and Hammer wants to take down Stark.  That’s about it.  Tony will have to accept his role as Iron Man and figure out what it means to be a hero.  I think War Machine will be showing up, but this has yet to be really confirmed.

-I think we’re going to see some more of the 10 Rings.  They were the terrorists in the first movie, and part of a much bigger organization.  The 10 Rings refers to the Mandarin, Iron Man’s archnemesis and the villain of the third movie.

Is it going to be made?

-Filming just finished, so yeah.  I think so.
