Green Lantern Mask Thingee
Something has recently come to my attention. Exhibit A. Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner.
Exhibit B. Guy Gardner and a bunch of other lanterns, including the greatest Lantern of them all, Kilowog.
Hey, something is different about these two groups…. Is it because the group on the bottom has aliens in it? Yeah, but thats not important. Oh, thats it! For some reason, the two guys on top have those stupid mask thingees. After reading a bunch of issues of Green Lantern Corps., I noticed that the vast majority of Green Lanterns do not have the mask thingees in question. They just have the ever stylish suit and some badass jewelry.
So why do Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner wear those things? Its not like this is a human thing, since John and Guy have the good taste not to wear one. I cant see the eye-guards offering much protection. If they did, the guardians would probably make them more widespread. My only guess is that they want to protect their secret identities. This poses two problems. One: no other member cares about secret identities. Im sure they must laugh at Hal for trying to lead a double life, and it must make humanity look pretty dumb in front of the intergalactic community. Way to go Hal. Between this and you becoming Parallax we must look like the harbringers of doom. Two: I don’t think its a great way to conceal an identity. Its a little piece of plastic that covers the eyes. If I try and rob a bank but have a blindfold on with holes cut out so I could see, the cops are going to find me in about five minutes. Then again, Superman has gone all these years with nothing on his face at all and people still havnt been able to connect the dots.
Before I infuriate any readers, please keep in mind that Im kind of a lantern newb. Someone probably has made up a perfectly good reason for the mask thingee. But dammit, when I finally get a hold of my power ring, I wont be wearing one. And you shouldn’t either.
